Aligoté

Aligoté

Aligoté is a white wine grape variety originating from Burgundy, France, and is known for producing crisp, light, and refreshing wines. While not as widely planted or as renowned as its Burgundian counterparts, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Aligoté has its own distinct qualities that make it a unique and appealing choice for certain wine enthusiasts.

Aligoté wines are characterized by their high acidity and citrusy flavors, often featuring notes of green apple and lemon. They are typically unoaked, allowing the bright and zesty characteristics of the grape to shine. Aligoté is used to produce both still and sparkling wines, and it is an essential component in the traditional Kir cocktail when mixed with crème de cassis.

Burgundy, particularly the region of Bouzeron, is the primary area for Aligoté cultivation. The grape is valued for its ability to maintain acidity even in warmer climates, making it a reliable choice for cooler vintages or sites less suitable for Chardonnay.
